No construction needed for replacement | All about suspended ceilings and installation
One of the appeals of a ceiling light is that you can replace it yourself without the need for any construction.
However, there's one condition for this: your ceiling must have a wiring device called a "hanging rosette." This article outlines the basics of installation and key checkpoints to review before purchasing.
What exactly is a "hanging rosette"?
A hanging rosette is a wiring device for lighting fixtures that is pre-installed on the ceiling. It comes standard in many homes, including rental properties.
With this, you can replace a light fixture without electrical work (or qualifications) or tools, simply by snapping it into place and twisting.
Compatible wiring device types
lipro ceiling lights can be installed on common hanging rosettes like the following (please confirm there is no wobbling or damage):
- Circular hanging rosette
- Hanging rosette
- Circular hanging rosette
- Recessed rosette
On the other hand, we do not recommend installing on a "square hanging rosette" as it can be unstable and cause the unit to wobble. Also, if the "dashiro" (protrusion of the wiring device) is too short, installation may not be possible.
Ceilings that cannot be installed or require caution
In the following cases, installation is not possible as is. Please consult an electrician or retailer:
- There is no wiring device, only bare wires
- The wiring device is damaged or the power terminals are exposed
- There is wobbling
- Ceilings with protrusions or irregularities, or deformed, slanted, battened, or lattice ceilings, etc.
Since this concerns safety, if you are unsure, please do not force it and consult a professional.
Installation process (3 steps)
For safety, please turn off the main power (wall switch) and ensure the area around the fixture has cooled down before proceeding.
- Attach the adapter: Attach the included adapter to the ceiling's wiring device by turning it clockwise until you hear a "click."
- Attach the main unit: Align the main unit with the adapter and rotate it clockwise to the "installation complete" position, securing it firmly.
- Check lighting: Turn on the wall switch and confirm that the light turns on and the remote control functions.
To remove, lift the main unit and turn it counter-clockwise. To remove the adapter, press the removal button while turning it.
In the case of lipro | Lightweight and easy to handle
The lipro ceiling light weighs approximately 1.5kg for the 6-tatami mat size and 2.7kg for the 8-tatami mat size. The load capacity of a general hanging rosette is typically 5kg (up to 10kg with conditions), so it can be installed with plenty of leeway. Its slim design integrates seamlessly with the ceiling.
Note that it cannot be used with circuits that have a wall-mounted dimmer (it may cause a malfunction). If there is a dimmer, it must be removed.
Summary | First, check the ceiling's wiring device
In most cases, replacing a ceiling light is possible without various tools if you confirm that "there is a hanging rosette" and "there is no wobbling or damage." If you are unsure, taking a photo of your ceiling's shape can make it easier to consult.
